Make the Most of Your SPP Variable Benefit
With the summer upon us and the days filled with sunshine, it’s a wonderful time to check in and share some updates. Whether you’re spending more time outdoors or simply enjoying some well-deserved relaxation, we hope this season brings you plenty of bright moments. We’ve gathered a few key reminders and answers to common questions to help you make the most of your pension plan.
Can I still contribute to my SPP once I start collecting the variable benefit?
While new contributions aren't permitted once you start collecting the Variable Benefit (VB), you can transfer savings from existing unlocked RRSPs, RRIFs, RPPs and DPSPs into your account. These direct plan-to-plan transfers have no tax implications.
Why transfer funds into your SPP?
Strong historical returns
SPP has a reliable track record, with the Balanced Fund returning 9.43% and the Diversified Income Fund earning 2.97% in 2025.*
Low MER
We target a Management Expense Ratio (MER) of less than 1%, keeping more of your money working for you.
Simplicity
Consolidating funds in your VB account can make your retirement savings easier to manage.
As part of the transfer process, you will be asked to choose how your funds are allocated, either in the Balanced Fund, the Diversified Income Fund, or a combination of both.

Please note: While SPP doesn’t charge a fee for transferring your funds into your account, your current financial institution may charge a fee to move funds out.

*Past returns do not guarantee future results.
