With the first few months of the year behind us, now is a great time to take a look at the benefits you offer and make sure they still meet your team’s needs.
Here are some benefit trends to watch for in 2026, practical information about T4s and SPP contributions, and a few easy ways to make sure your SPP is set up for a strong year.
2026 Trends in Employee Benefits
These days, it’s not just about how much you pay your employees. Your benefits can also set your business apart. The good news is you don’t need a big, complicated benefits program to attract talent. Employees want options that fit their lifestyle and needs. Here’s how that can look for your business.
Pension Plan
Many employees are worried about their retirement. Simple, low-cost retirement options like SPP make it easier for workers to feel secure, without making things complicated for your business.
Wellness Support
Workers are looking for tailored wellness supportthat’s relevant and easy to use, like therapy apps, on-demand stress management courses, and incentives for regular health checks.
Work-Life Balance
Flexibility matters. Flexible hours, family-friendly policies, and extra support with caregiving or time off can make a real difference for your team.
Discover how other businesses are putting SPP to work for them
As a professional pension, benefits and investment firm, Convyta Partners had high standards when searching for a pension plan of their own. SPP checked all the boxes and turned out to be a perfect fit.
See why they chose SPP and how it’s helping them support their team.
Offering SPP is a great start to building a stronger benefits package. But to make the most of your plan, here are a few simple things to review each year.
Taking a few minutes now can help you and your employees make the most of SPP throughout the year.
RRSP Contribution Room
Remind your staff to check their annual RRSP contribution room (they can find this on their latest Notice of Assessment or CRA My Account). It can help them plan for the year ahead and decide if a lump sum or increased automatic contribution is right.
Employee Setup
Log into the MyBusiness Portal to review your employee list and confirm that contributions are being made as intended for each person.
Take a look at each employee’s SPP arrangement. Are the contribution amounts still a good fit for your business and your team? Do you want to adjust your employer contribution going forward?
Year-End Statement
You can find your Year-End Remittance Statement in the MyBusiness Portal under the Documents tab.
SPP is a flexible, voluntary plan, giving your staff extra control over their retirement. Employees can transfer-in money from unlocked registered plans, including Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs), Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIFs), Registered Pension Plans (RPPs) and Deferred Profit Sharing Plans (DPSPs).

SPP in the Community
We were pleased to take part in ConExin Saskatoon on February 12. It was a great opportunity to connect and share what SPP has to offer.
Next up, we’ll be at the Advancing Organics tradeshow in Regina on March 26-27. If you’re attending, stop by our booth to say hello!
