Contributing
SPP makes it simple to contribute to your account. Choose from any of the following methods:
- by mail (A contribution form is required)
- in person or by telebanking at your financial institution
- by phone using your credit card (1-800-667-7153)
- on-line from this web site
- directly from your bank account on a pre-authorized schedule (PAC)
Contributions are limited to $600 per plan year. A plan year equals the calendar year plus the first sixty
days of the next year. There is no minimum payment - the contribution schedule and payment method are your
choice.
Your SPP account is tax sheltered and you or your spouse may be able to use your contribution as a tax
deduction. You may continue contributing to your account until the end of the year in which you celebrate
your 71st birthday or until you begin receiving a pension from SPP, whichever is earlier. You can continue
contributing to the Plan if you are receiving SPP survivor's benefits.
Contributions to your account are locked-in and earn interest until you retire. If you die before you retire, the funds in your account will be paid to your beneficiary.
When you contribute to SPP you benefit from:
- a tax sheltered investment;
- simple payment options; and
- a flexible payment schedule.
